Obituary of Marvin Silberberg
Marvin (“Marv”) Silberberg, a longtime resident of Needham, MA, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on March 9, 2023. Marv was raised in Dorchester, MA, playing sports and socializing with friends at the neighborhood Hecht House. Marv, always independent and industrious, began working on the Boston Fish Pier at 13 years old. He graduated Boston Latin High School in 1947 and Boston University in 1951 with a degree in accounting.
After college, Marvin proudly served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. Upon completing his military service, Marv worked for accounting firms in both the private and public sector before joining Raytheon, working in the Lexington, MA headquarters. He was a loyal Raytheon employee for over 30 years before retiring as Director of Government Accounting.
In 1962, Marvin was set-up on a blind date with Paula Ginsburg. The couple quickly fell in love and were married five months later. They had two children, Stuart and Ilene, and a wonderful 60-year marriage; they enjoyed spending summers on the beaches of Cape Cod and Maine.
Marv was a fanatic Boston sports fan, an avid stock market prognosticator and a voracious reader. He was known for his analytical mind, his strong moral code, and his unwavering sense of duty.
He was a dedicated Papa who endlessly entertained his grandchildren with his dry sense of humor and charismatic storytelling, and he never missed a grandchild’s performance or sports game.
Marv was a devoted son to the late Samuel and Dora Silberberg and brother to the late Robert Silberberg. He was a loving husband and father; he is survived by his wife, Paula, his children Stuart and Michele Silberberg and Ilene and Alan Frost. He was a proud, loving “Papa” to his grandchildren, Danielle, Lauren, Andrea, Samantha, Nicole, Steven, and Caroline. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
