I was a patient of Dr. Lebowitz for quite a few years, and he was defintely one of the best physicians I have ever encountered in my life. He took his work very seriously, and practiced medicine to an extremely high standard - you could always count on him to do 100% his best for you, even if it involved more time and effort than one might expect. He always gave very generously, in terms of the effort and commitment to his work that you received as his patient - and the effort and commitment that he gave - were of the highest possible quality. He was a great example of what a physician can be, and should be, and it was always a comfort to know that Dr. Lebowitz was looking over your situation, whether it was a routine exam, or some kind of question on a specific matter. You always knew, with Dr. Lebowitz - you were getting the very best medical advice and care, and you knew that it really mattered to him that you were getting the best possible advice and care. One of the very best.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I had the privilege of working for the Stamford Medical Group in the 1970's as a registered nurse and at times had worked with Alan who was the last of the six doctors to join the group. He was a great guy and an excellent physician. He will be greatly missed by many. My sincerest condolences to the Lebowitz family.

As a professional colleague it was an honor whenever Alan asked me to participate in the care of his patients. He had so many fine attributes; thoughtfulness, concern, compassion, intelligence, integrity, judgement, humility, humor. They combined to make him a true prince among physicians. And these same qualities made him in his everyday life an extraordinary gentleman. Harriet, and the children, there are no words for your loss. Yet his memory will most surely be a blessing.

To The Lebowitz Family
I was very saddened to hear of Alans passing. I was one of his patients for 30+ years.. Dr Lebowitz treated me for chronic Lyme Disease when many Drs. at the time wouldnot! His passion and commitment to try and get me well went way beyond Dr patient relationship.. I was proud to call him my friend! The absolute best hands down and will be missed by many. My heart goes out to all at this time of loss... RIP my friend.. Albert Simeone (Den WoodsTree Service)

There are no words to express my heartbreak on the loss of Alan Lebowitz. More than just my (and my family's and my best friend's) doctor for decades, he indeed was our trusted friend. Alan was an absolute shining star of a person who touched my life in a profound way. Alan welcomed me, and all his patients, with genuine interest, time, gentleness, integrity, warmth, and brilliance. He was so completely open to and delighted at the prospect of learning something new - such was the nature of his intellectual curiosity coupled by his genuine interest in you, his patient. His determination to get to the bottom of an issue or diagnosis went beyond the call. I don’t think I’ve ever met a person so genuinely interested in each person as an individual and as committed to helping them. He was always available when I needed him, and in no uncertain terms he saved my life during one particular challenging situation. His attention as a physician never wavered from the patient he was treating in the moment. I'll treasure our many, many chats about so many things in his office. He cultivated a doctor-patient relationship in such a special way. I was always just as interested in how he was doing, because I loved this man, I always will love him.
He was so much more than my doctor. I know there will never be anyone like him again. How blessed I was to have the privilege of knowing Alan Lebowitz.

I was so sad to hear of Alan's death. We shared many patients over the 37 years I was in practice. Alan was a wonderful physician, never leaving any stone unturned in his care of his patients. He was the ultimate physician and scholar. I will miss him very much. I send my condolences to his family.
Sincerely,
James R. Sabetta, M.D.

I was so sad to hear of Alan's death. We shared many happy memories together during his years working at Stamford Hospital. I remember his infectious smile, his gentle nature, the insatiable search for truth in the research, and his joy of life. We played squash regularly, first at the Stamford Landmark club, then wherever we could find a court. Various musculoskeletal mishaps limited our recent contests, but I remember the past ones very well. He was always a source of good counsel and we shared many a patient together during that time. Sadly, as is often the case, in more recent years we didn't spend much time together but I will forever hold a special place for Alan. He was an important part of my life here in Stamford.
Love to all the family.

There was no one that came close to Dr. Lebowitz. Ever.
You knew going into his office to bring a book - that a scheduled appointment most likely would run an hour late because we knew he would never rush any patient. And when I sat in his office and talked I knew he would never rush me.
He was a man worth waiting for. I can truly say that I loved him.
He exemplified the qualities that honor the word ‘doctor’
I hope you knew that Dr.Lebowitz. You were special. Rare. Smart. Thoughtful. Honest. Caring. Funny. Lovely. The best.
I hope your family knows the joy and comfort you brought to us.
Thank you for sharing him.
I will miss him so much. My entire family will miss him.

There are no words to express our sadness on receiving the news of Alan's passing. He was our physician for 44 years, seeing us in both Stamford locations and then Darien. His annual physical "interview" was one of the most unique parts of the relationship, discussing everything under the sun. Our condolences go out to his family - the pride of his life. So very sorry. Words can not express what I feel for Dr Lebowitz. He set the bar so high that I am convinced I will never meet another doctor as dedicated to his patients as he was. My husband and I are so fortunate to have been his patients. Not only did he save my life
(and this is not an exaggeration), he was always there for me. Meeting me at 4pm on New Year's Eve day when I was freaked out about an injury, to helping me when I had problems with my oldest daughter. I loved this man. There was and will never be anyone like him. May he rest in peace, and my his family find comfort in those wonderful memories he gave you.

There are just no words that can adequately express my gratitude for Dr. Lebowitz. He was my mother's physician first, and then mine - for 20+ years. When I would show him pictures of my children he liked to remind me I was "just this this high" when he first met me (even though I'm 45 now!) I had the privilege of working for him at his office in Darien while I was home from college for a few years, where I learned he was just as gracious, wise, dignified, humble and absolutely hysterical "behind the scenes" as he was as my doctor. He cared. Deeply and truly. His loss begs the question, "what can I possibly do to show my gratitude to someone who gave so much?" I'll begin by thanking his wife Harriett and his entire family for sacrificing their time with him so that he could be the light and healer that he was in this world. A doctor's work is just never done I'd imagine. I know because he never didn't answer my call. So, thank you - for supporting him in the ways that YOU did, so that HE could support so, so many with our most precious asset; health. I'll miss you Dr. Lebowitz...you had a way of making me laugh (even through tears!), and making patients feel like they were the only ones in the building (even when you had a line out the door). You are/were a true a gem that will never ever be forgotten. My deepest prayers will remain with your family. Kristin (Stratton) Raniola
